Sisk/Lagan Joint Venture (JV) have been selected to undertake the Dublin Airport Airside and Landside civil engineering framework worth over €325 million by Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).
The Airside and Landside Lot 1 framework is part of DAA’s Capital Investment Programme 2020+ for Dublin Airport (CIP 2020+) which is designed to deliver continued growth over the medium term in line with Irish government policy.
This Framework consists of a number of civil engineering and infrastructure projects to upgrade the pavement, drainage and electrical systems at Dublin Airport’s boarding gate piers, aircraft stands, terminals, aprons, taxiways and the general airfield campus, in line with DAA’s CIP 2020+.
Sisk/Lagan Joint Venture (JV) Win Dublin Airport Project
Ultan McCloskey, Director of Infrastructure at daa said:
“Dublin Airport plays a vital role in connecting Ireland with the world and daa has an ongoing requirement to invest in our infrastructure to achieve that mission. We are looking forward to working in partnership with leaders in building and civil engineering that have the people, processes and best practice to support our existing in-house teams. Working with Sisk/Lagan Joint Venture (JV) to undertake our Airside and Landside civil engineering works, will ensure we collectively deliver the capital investment programme required right across Dublin Airport.”
Paul Brown, CEO, John Sisk & Son said:
“Sisk/Lagan JV is delighted to be selected by daa to complete the Airside and Landside Lot 1 Framework at Dublin Airport. Sisk has a proud history of delivering first-class civil engineering projects in Ireland. We look forward to beginning our new working relationship with daa, Lagan and local communities to create a positive legacy at Dublin Airport.”
Steve Turner, MD, Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure Ltd said:
“Sisk Lagan JV look forward to working along with daa and the stakeholders to deliver the Airside and Landside Lot 1 Framework. Lagan has a long track record of delivering infrastructure projects in airports and we look forward to working with Sisk on this framework.”
Essential projects, such as Dublin Airport’s new North Runway and the upgrade to the airport’s hold baggage screening systems have been progressing and there will also be a requirement for significant ongoing works across the airport campus.
In 2019, Dublin Airport welcomed a record 32.9 million passengers and had flights to more than 190 destinations in 42 countries operated by almost 50 airlines. Rebuilding Ireland’s connectivity will play a vital role in helping the Irish economy to recover from the economic shock of the pandemic.
Eight new low-carbon houses are under construction in both Kilkenny and Carlow as part of a scheme by 3cea.
3cea is a non-profit, independent energy agency working primarily in Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford.
The houses form part of an EU project to lower embodied emissions in house builds by utilising a 'Design for Manufacture and Assembly' (DfMA) model, ensuring houses are built to nZEB (Zero Energy Building) standard. In time it is hoped that the model will reduce the cost of construction.
nZEB ('Nearly Zero Energy Buildings') means a building that has a very high energy performance. The nearly zero or very low amount of energy required should be covered to a very significant extent by energy from renewable sources, including energy from renewable sources produced on-site or nearby.
Low-carbon Houses Under Construction
3cea Communications Officer Colin Healy said, “3cea were delighted to lead this initiative and to secure Irish funding of over 600K from a Europe wide fund of 4.2 million made available by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interred NorthWest Europe scheme to make this pilot project happen,” said Communications Officer Colin Healy.
“H4.0E-n ZEBs or ZEB builds are a must for future construction to meet both Ireland’s housing needs and carbon mitigation goals. The h4.0E houses in the upscaling process will be far cheaper to run and substantial carbon emission reductions will be achieved both in embodied and operational carbon.
“Heating and domestic hot water is where most of the energy will be used and these are warmer better insulated homes. All houses are fitted with heat pumps.”
The houses will be completed this year and will be used for social housing.

The National Energy Summit 2022 takes place Thursday 26 April, at Croke Park, Dublin
The Summit will bring together industry experts and thought leaders from both the public and private sectors to find solutions to the issues facing us in securing our energy supply. It will examine the programme of work that is being delivered to secure the longer term enduring capacity that is needed to reach our 2030 targets and to meet the demands of our growing and decarbonising economy.
The Climate Action Plan 2021 commits Ireland to a legally binding target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions no later than 2050, and a reduction of 51% by 2030. To contribute to the achievement of these targets, the Government has committed that up to 80% of electricity consumption will come from renewable sources by 2030. The targets are ambitious and the pressure is on to achieve them whilst at the same time ensuring continued security of electricity supply during the transition period.

Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is hosting a lunchtime webinar 'Equality, Diversity, Inclusion in Construction' ahead of International Women’s Day. Southern Region Director Conor O’Connell is joined by Louise Hogan, discussing her career as an Electrician, her success on the international soccer pitch and her challenges and drive in a professional and sports career with a hearing impairment.
Equality, Diversity, Inclusion in Construction takes place on Feb 28, 2022 12:30 PM.
Over the next decade, the Construction Industry must ensure that we attract and retain talent to meet current and future skills demands. Organisations that value Equality Diversity & Inclusion attract and retain the best people, perform better and ultimately are more successful. Therefore, creating an environment where differences of thought and perspectives are encouraged, isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s essential for our future skills needs.
The next generation will expect and choose to work for organisations that encourage and embrace differences in backgrounds, opinions and thoughts. Businesses that fail to focus on workplace inclusion will undoubtedly get left behind.
CIF believe that the sector is one of the most diverse, but skills needs, retention of staff and expansion of talent are critical to our industry growth.
